1. One of the basic organic raw materials, used to manufacture a variety of organic products such as methyl chloride, methylamine and dimethyl sulfate. It is also a raw material for pesticides (insecticides, acaricides), medicines (sulfonamides, synmycin, etc.), and one of the raw materials for synthesizing dimethyl terephthalate, methyl methacrylate and methyl acrylate.
2. The main application area of methanol is the production of formaldehyde, which can be used to produce adhesives, mainly used in the wood processing industry, and secondly as a treatment agent for molding compounds, coatings, textiles and paper.
3. Another major use of methanol is the production of acetic acid. Acetic acid consumption accounts for about 7% of the global demand for methanol. 7. Methanol can be used to make growth promoters. It can increase crop yields significantly, keep branches and leaves fresh, thriving and luxuriant, and will not wither in summer. It can greatly reduce irrigation water and is conducive to the growth of dryland crops.
8. Methanol can be synthesized into methanol protein. Methanol protein produced by microbial fermentation with methanol as raw material is called second-generation single-cell protein. Compared with natural protein, it has higher nutritional value and much higher crude protein content than fish meal and soybeans. It is rich in amino acids, minerals and vitamins and can replace fish meal, soybeans, bone meal, meat and skimmed milk powder.

Emergency treatment of leakage
Evacuate the personnel in the leakage contaminated area to the safe area quickly, isolate and strictly restrict the access. Cut off the fire source. It is recommended that emergency treatment personnel wear self-contained positive pressure respirators and gas protective clothing. Do not touch the leakage directly. Cut off the leakage source as much as possible to prevent entering the restricted space such as sewers and flood drainage ditches. Small leakage: adsorption or absorption with sand or other incombustible materials. It can also be washed with a large amount of water and diluted into the wastewater system. Massive leakage: build a dike or dig a pit to receive; Cover with foam to reduce steam disaster. Transfer to tank car or special collector with explosion-proof pump. Recycle or transport to waste disposal site for disposal.
Protective measures
Respiratory system protection: filter type gas mask (half mask) should be worn when it may be exposed to its vapor. In case of emergency rescue or evacuation, it is recommended to wear air respirator. Eye protection: wear chemical safety glasses. Body protection: wear anti-static work clothes. Hand protection: wear rubber gloves. Others: smoking, eating and drinking are prohibited at the work site. Shower and change clothes after work. Implement pre employment and regular physical examination.
First aid measures
Skin contact: take off the contaminated clothes and wash the skin thoroughly with soap and water. Eye contact: lift the eyelids and rinse with flowing water or normal saline. Seek medical attention. Inhalation: leave the site quickly to a place with fresh air. Keep the respiratory tract unobstructed. If breathing is difficult, give oxygen. If breathing stops, carry out artificial respiration immediately. Seek medical attention. Ingestion: drink sufficient warm water, induce vomiting, and wash stomach with clear water or 1% sodium thiosulfate solution. Seek medical attention.
Fire extinguishing method: move the container from the fire site to an open place as far as possible. Spray water to keep the fire site container cool until the end of fire fighting. If the container in the fire has changed color or generated sound from the safety relief device, it must be evacuated immediately.
