1. One of the basic organic raw materials, used to manufacture a variety of organic products such as methyl chloride, methylamine and dimethyl sulfate. It is also a raw material for pesticides (insecticides, acaricides), medicines (sulfonamides, synmycin, etc.), and one of the raw materials for synthesizing dimethyl terephthalate, methyl methacrylate and methyl acrylate.
2. The main application area of methanol is the production of formaldehyde, which can be used to produce adhesives, mainly used in the wood processing industry, and secondly as a treatment agent for molding compounds, coatings, textiles and paper.
3. Another major use of methanol is the production of acetic acid. Acetic acid consumption accounts for about 7% of the global demand for methanol. It can be used to produce vinyl acetate, cellulose acetate and acetate esters, and its demand is closely related to the demand for coatings, adhesives and textiles.
4. Methanol can be used to make methyl formate, which can be used to produce formic acid, formamide and other fine chemical products. It can also be used as an insecticide, fungicide, fumigant, tobacco treatment agent and gasoline additive.
5. Methanol can be synthesized into dimethyl carbonate, which is an environmentally friendly product used in medicine, agriculture and special industries.
6. Methanol can be synthesized into ethylene glycol, which is one of the intermediate raw materials of petrochemicals and can be used to produce polyester and antifreeze.
7. Methanol can be used to make growth promoters. It can increase crop yields significantly, keep branches and leaves fresh, thriving and luxuriant, and will not wither in summer. It can greatly reduce irrigation water and is conducive to the growth of dryland crops.
8. Methanol can be synthesized into methanol protein. Methanol protein produced by microbial fermentation with methanol as raw material is called second-generation single-cell protein. Compared with natural protein, it has higher nutritional value and much higher crude protein content than fish meal and soybeans. It is rich in amino acids, minerals and vitamins and can replace fish meal, soybeans, bone meal, meat and skimmed milk powder.
9. Used as an analytical reagent, such as a solvent, methylation reagent, and chromatographic analysis reagent. It is also used in organic synthesis.
10.Methanol can be used to produce dimethyl ether. In addition to its wide range of uses in daily chemicals, pharmaceuticals, pesticides, dyes, coatings, etc., dimethyl ether also has the advantages of easy cleaning, high cetane number, good power performance, and less pollution. Fuel properties such as easy to pressurize into liquid and easy to store. A new type of liquid fuel prepared by methanol and dimethyl ether in a certain proportion is called alcohol ether fuel. Its combustion efficiency and thermal efficiency are higher than those of liquefied gas.
Methanol storage methods mainly include closed storage, gas storage, and solid adsorption storage.
Airtight storage : This is the most common storage method, and methanol should be stored in airtight containers, such as stainless steel containers or glass bottles, to ensure that the container is airtight and reduce evaporation and safety incidents.
Gas Storage : Methanol can be stored in high-pressure containers or tanks, which are dense and hard to evaporate, but require specialized equipment and technology.
Solid adsorption storage : This is a new type of storage method that uses solid materials such as activated carbon or molecular sieve to adsorb methanol, which is highly safe and reusable.
Storage environment requirements
Methanol should be stored in a cool, well-ventilated environment, away from ignition and heat sources. The ideal storage temperature should be maintained between 15°C and 30°C to avoid possible chemical reactions or container rupture caused by extreme temperature changes. Warehouses should be kept dry, with relative humidity generally not exceeding 70%, and equipped with effective temperature control systems and dehumidification equipment.
Safety measures
The area where methanol is stored should be equipped with appropriate fire protection facilities and safety warning signs. The staff should receive professional safety training to understand the characteristics of methanol and emergency treatment measures. In addition, regular inspections of the integrity of storage facilities, sealing performance, and the stability of environmental conditions are necessary.
